Show Prep cross country recap Viewmont dominates track By TOM HARALDSEN While Viewmont continued its dominance of boys' cross country races, other local teams enjoyed mixed success in dual meets this past week: VIEWMONT-CLEARFIELD At Viewmont, the Vikings had all seven of their top runners cross the finish line together in a one-sided dual meet So powerful is the Viewmont team that Jed Johansen, Jason Hess, Paul Hess, Paul Cutler, Jeremy Call, Trevor Willey and Tyler Gledhill joined hands and crossed the finish line in tandem. Needless to say, the Vikes won this dual 15-50 (15 the lowest possible score). The Lady Vikings also won, beating the Falcons 21-36, as Windy Win-dy Hutchings won the race. Jenny Wadley finished second, Julianne Ryan fourth, Monica Yardley sixth and Shauri Carling seventh for the Vikings. Viewmont was slated to go to the Box Elder Invitational last Saturday, Satur-day, and will travel to Layton for a dual on Thursday. DAVIS-ROY At Roy the unseasonably warm temperatures, coupled with a course without much shade took their toll on the Darts. The boys' team edged Roy 31-32 in a triangular meet that saw Layton third with 63 points. Mike Sherman fell just a few yards from the finish, but got up to win the race. His injury could be serious enough to force him out of races this season, though coach Roger Burley was unsure of his status as of Friday night. Clark Finlinson was second, eight seconds behind Sherman, while Dan Quist took seventh, Jared Allen 10th and Adam Bennett 1 1th for the Darts. Roy beat Davis' girls 34-44 (Layton was third with 50 points). Sarah Butler of Davis easily won the race, but Davis was without the services of Dayna Smith, and Sandra San-dra Verbroekken was injured during the race. Ashley Wagner finished fourth overall, Leslie Summers was seventh and Jennifer Hewlett took 1 3th. Davis hosts Weber this Thursday. MURRAY-WOODS CROSS At Murray, the Spartans downed the Wildcat boys 26-39 in a meet in which Park City also ran. Woods Cross was paced by an eighth place finish from Matt Brown. Dave Marx took 10th and Jason Anderson 13th for the 'Cats. The Lady Wildcats fared much better, beating Murray in the dual (no exact score was reported). Jenny Heap was the top runner for Woods Cross, placing third overall. Michelle Devey was fourth overall and Jenny Lessee sixth. Woods Cross had one runner disqualified for missing a turn on the confusing Murray course. Woods Cross hosts West on Wednesday. BOUNTIFUL-JUDGE At Judge, the powerful Bulldogs beat Bountiful 20-35, despite the fine second-place finish of Brandon Wilding. Lance Palmer was sixth and Adam Smith eighth for the Braves. Judge also won the girls race, 18-41. Misa Graff was third overall for Bountiful, with Carolyn Doxey eighth and Elizabeth Mabey tying teammate Denece Jacobs for ninth. Yvonne Howe, who transferred to Judge from Bountiful this year, placed fourth. Bountiful travels to Jordan this Wednesday. |
