Show Q. Several years mgo, I wed Joint co id pound on the walls of my foyer to create a stucco look. I would like to remove this stucco so I can wallpaper. What Is the best way to accomplish this? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated- Mr. Dlx Hills A: Stucco points can be knocked off by scraping with a 6" scraper. Use caution as these stucco points are sharp. Remove as much as you can without too much exertion. Using wallboard compound, build up your new wall by troweling the compound onto the wall You'll need more than one coat, so don't aim for the finished product at this time. Wait 24 hours before applying your second, and hopefully, last coat of compound There may be some sanding of high spots required before attempting the final coat. Let's spend some time talking about compound protocol. It's extremely extre-mely important that none of the compound hardens in the tub, otherwise, if the hardened compound com-pound gets into the compound you are about apply, it will result in gouges as it is applied and dragged as you trowel it out Also, If there is any compound left on your hawk when you are done, throw it out; don't put it back in the tub. When you apply the finish coat, you want to be as neat as possible. Keeping in mind that unless you're a professional, profes-sional, you won't get professional results. This technique requires a lot of practice. Besides, you'll be sanding sand-ing that final coat anyway. When complete, prime, and apply the covering you have decided on. Q, My white baked aluminum storm doors need reflnlshing around the handle. Is It possible to do .that section. They are, otherwise, In good shape. H.C., E. Northport, N.Y. A. 1 would recommend using an aerosol spray can of paint for a problem such as yours. Leaning the door on the frame, I would first tape off all areas I don't wish to be painted with painter's tape, such as, door handles and hinges. Next, clean the door with "Wilbond" liquid sandpaper. This serves two purposes. pur-poses. First, it cleans the area of all impurities and second, it de-glosses the existing paint and prevents the new paint from crawling. When spraying using an aerosol can, be sure to shake wellf and when you're done, turn the can upside down, press the tip, and clear the can for the next use. In spraying hold the can approximately eight inches away from the door, somewhere between dust and intense. Spray from end to end in one continuous motion. Iftft by King Feature SyruJ i .1 |
