Gleaners enjoy 55th b-day The Lifelong Gleaners, a club of Mormon women which began in 1935, held a garden party at the home of Ruby Hansen of Bountiful, Tuesday, Aug. 29, to renew friendships friend-ships that began many years ago. Fifteen women from a club which once numbered over 60 members, traveled to this year's event. When the club was first organized by Louise Barkdull in the Emerson Ward, Granite Stake in Salt Lake, the women would meet twice a year for a luncheon and short program at the Lion House in Salt Lake City. Ruby Hansen feels that the reason the club has stayed together for so long is because of the unique and diverse talents of the women involved. Many of the women were teachers, some were singers and one woman was a nurse for David O. McKay, former president of the Mormon church. Many of the women still teach, play or in some way make use of their various talents. |
