Show National Mother of the Year to speak t r ; ' ' 1 ' I FARMINGTON Nadinc T. Matis, recently named 1990 National Mother of the Year and Marilyn S. Bambrough, Utah Young Mother, will be featured speakers at the Farmington Elementary Elemen-tary School on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 pm. Matis will discuss "Communication--The Key." The public is invited to this event sponsored spon-sored by American Mothers, Inc. ''Communication, or lack of it, is at the root of many of today's problems, prob-lems, especially where it concerns children. One of the greatest needs today is for people to reach out and communicate with their hearts Matis said. Matis is from Ogden, the wife of Dr. John A. Matis and the mother of four children. Her first career choice is motherhood, the results of which are her four outstanding children. Julie is a corporate attorney; Wendy is a dermatology resident in Pennsylvania; Greg will graduate from law school this spring, while Steve has been accepted to dental school. Matis pursued another sort of nurturing after her children were grown by obtaining a doctorate in counseling and psychology from BYU. She is currently director of an adolescent behavior program at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. Much sought after professionally, she is also an outstanding speaker, well known throughout the area. Matis and Bambrough were named Utah Mother of the Year and Utah Young Mother, respectively, in March in ceremonies conducted by American Mothers, Inc. of Utah at the Salt Lake Hilton. They then represented Utah at the National Convention April 26-30 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, where Matis vied with 41 other state mothers for the national tide. She will now represent mothers across the nation throughout 1990, during which time, she expects to address the national literacy focus. She said the largest room in her house is the library and reading has always been a family affair. Her children said they have always known she was the best mother. Now the whole country knows it. She said that mothers are the value-keepers of the next generation ge-neration with a great responsibility to pass these values onto their children. Marilyn Bambrough, 1990 Utah Young Mother, is from River Heights. She is the wife of Bryan Bambrough and the mother of three daughters. Active for several years in her chapter of American Mothers in River Heights, Bambrough has been a source of inspiration and support to other young mothers in her area. She graduated with high honors NADINE MATIS from Ricks College in advertising and design and attended BYU majoring in graphic design before her marriage. Since then she has enjoyed everything every-thing from the outdoors to collecting collec-ting antiques, but mostly she enjoys her family who are the center of her life. American Mothers, Inc. is a national interfaith organization dedicated to preserving moral and spiritual values in the home. It is the official sponsor of Mother of the Year and Mother's Day.
