Show Bangerter, Hansen praise county's loyal Republicans By Janis Carter KAYSVILLE--Declaring that Davis County is the course of truth and righteousness, Congressman James Hansen, opened the Davis County Republican Convention last Saturday morning in the Davis High School auditorium with a motivational motiva-tional address that was well received receiv-ed by the convention delegates that were assembled to hear from party leaders and to select a slate of coun- There are many challenges in our state, such as how high taxes should be and how much should be spent on education. Presenting the budget, Bangerter said, "There is never enough money. We spend less on education than the national average and our taxes are higher; the challenge is how to balance the scale. "In the past ten years, we have grown by 30 percent in number of school children, while the national average has shrunk. We will succeed suc-ceed regardless of the statistics." The governor referred to the idea that we have to put the school system back into local control, and that we need to be optomistic, take responsibility, help call the plays and meet the challenges that arise. State representative, Craig Moody, commended Davis County for being a republican county. He said, "There is strong leadership in Davis County, and its people are looking for a better way. ' He commented that we need to keep the government close to the people and they can make a difference differ-ence in doing what is best for Davis County. Following the addresses given by invited speakers, each candidate for a county office was given five minutes to speak to the convention delegates. "I am proud to be the governor of this state," Bangerter said. "Utah has the lowest unemployment unemploy-ment rate it has had in the last 12 years. It is ranked second in the nation in management of fiscal policies," the governor said. |
