Show Andrews ' creativity helps kids believe in themselves Detailed planning and creative instruction have enabled Kathleen Andrews to instill in her students a unique pride in their classroom. In a setting that fosters an atmosphere at-mosphere of trust and respect, Andrews An-drews demonstrates a sincere interest inter-est in her students. This sincerity is felt by her students and has had a positive effect on the character and personality development of each one. Adding depth to her teaching curriculum, cur-riculum, Andrews has infused the importance of responsibility into her techniques. In her classroom, positive behavior is rewarded on a daily basis. Students have learned to take pride in completing a daily assignment log that can De taken home and bragged about to parents. Andrews has lent her expertise as CCLE chairman, CCLE committee member, curriculum implementor, co-operating teacher, and grade level chairperson. Those who work with Andrews are continually amazed at her calming calm-ing influence in the most difficult situations. Many students with serious seri-ous behavior problems have taken a positive turn because of her. Students in her class have experienced experi-enced many positive self-esteem experiences. Her motto, ' ' every child has self-worth," is evident daily in her teaching and student interaction. This industrious teacher coordinated coor-dinated and supervised the U.S. -Soviet Union youth fitness test for Holt Elementary, coordinated and supervised Jump for Heart for Holt and taught D.C. health cluster planning for the Davis District. While instilling pride and responsibility could have been a ponderous task for some, Andrews has brought those characteristics to life through innovative classroom projects. Students have even been treated to guest speakers such as emergency medical technicians and ham radio operators. Andrews has taught the children not only the necessity of responsibility, respon-sibility, but also of its rewards. |
