I i w f - ' ' : 4 f By BRET GALLAGHER BOUNTIFUL The Vikings have hopped a runaway train, and not only do they appear unstoppable, unstop-pable, by the looks of things Friday night, no one even wants to get in their way. For the second game in a row, defense was the name of the game as Viewmont dominated Clearfield 70-50, extending their perfect record to 15-0. "That is just a good basketball team," said Clearfield coach Ray Meibos. "They play together well, they play to their strengths, they are tough on the boards, and they're extremely ex-tremely patient." That this game would end up as lopsided as it did was a surprise to everyone, especially the Viking coaches. "We knew we had to play very well to beat them," said Coach Nelson, "considering how it went when we played in Clearfield." (Viewmont won by one point as the Falcons missed a last second shot.) Viewmont got off to a quick start with Don Faux hitting a layup to open the scoring. The Vikes would never trail the rest of the evening. With :05 remaining in the opening open-ing quarter, Viewmont was ahead 16-8. Then Kevin Dyson hit two of his team-high 24 as he stole the ball at mid-court and raced to the basket where the 6'2" guard did his best Michael Jordan impersonation, dunking the ball at the buzzer. "They have some great athletes," said Coach Nelson. "We have no one who is big enough to SEE VIKES ON B-2 t OVER AND OUT: Viewmont remained unbeaten with a 70-50 Region One victory over Clearfield Friday. The top-ranked Vikings are now 1 5-0. "We hope to match up well later when we meet some of the bigger teams in Salt Lake. ' ' For the game Robison also was an impressive four-for-five from 3-point 3-point range. Andy Jenson also had a solid performance, dominating the boards and hitting for 14 points. Tom Cutler was solid as usual for Viewmont, coming off the bench for 10 points. Vikes CONTINUED FROM B-l contain Dyson, and quick enough to keep up with him.' The Vikes had all they needed on other areas of the floor, however. Viewmont's John Robison found his shooting touch again as he drilled drill-ed the Falcons for 24. Defensively, Brandon Larson was nothing but a blur, as he was in Cory Johnson's face everywhere he turned. Johnson is the Falcons leading scorer, averaging over 20 a night, but Larson Lar-son and the other Vikings held him to only four. Viewmont was able to stretch their lead to 14 after three quarters, behind the hot shooting of Robison, who had eight for the period. The final quarter was more of the same, as the Vikes built their lead up to as many as 26 points. Coach Nelson also went with a big lineup in the later stages of the game with the Jensen brothers, Andy and Alex, who stand 6'7" and 6'8', respec- Friday.
