Show Former Davis County teacher gets 1 0 year prison sentence MINDEN, Nev. A 41 -year-old West Point resident resi-dent and former Davis County junior high school teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday after he pleaded no contest to the charge of committing lewdness with a child under 14 years of age. Larry Robert Houtz, who was a band teacher at a Clearfield Junior High school last year, received the stiffest sentence possible by law in Douglas District Court. He will be eligible for parole after serving one-third one-third of his sentence. Houtz was arrested last May and extradited to Nevada to face charges he had molested a former pupil while teaching at a Douglas County middle school 14 years ago. The 26-year-old male victim said Houtz had abused him when he was 12 and was a student at the school. Attorneys for the defendant asserted their client could not be prosecuted because the statute of limitations limita-tions had run out. However, the Nevada Supreme court ruled last June the statute of limitations doesn't begin until the crime is reported. |
