Show School asbestos studies planned By DONETA GATHERUM FARMINGTON At the last meeting of the Davis County Board of Education, approval was given to complete the asbestos study in all school buildings in Davis County. Earlier in the year, ten schools were selected for inspections in a pilot program that was used to determine de-termine the extent of the asbestos problem in Davis schools and the cost of examining a school for asbestos. IHI company did the pilot work. This firm also received Board approval to complete the study. According to federal law, all schools must have an asbestos inspection in-spection and report by Oct. 12, 1988. The cost for the survey of the remaining 60 Davis District buildings build-ings could be as high as $300,000. The board authorized the expenditure expendi-ture of $200,000 with reports upon the completion of sets of ten buildings. build-ings. If the $200,000 won't complete com-plete the inspection of all the school buildings, a new contract will be negotiated. Board member Ray Briscoe voted against the $200,000 plan. He favored approximating a maximum of $300,000 at one time for the entire en-tire project. "It's got to be done sooner or later. It will probably be chapter to go the $300,000 route in the beginning," Dr. Briscoe reasoned. |
