Show DUP plaque placed at Farmington site The Daughters of Utah Pioneers of Davis County Farmington-Centerville Farmington-Centerville area, placed a Constitutional Consti-tutional plaque at the tree which the organization planted in October, Octo-ber, 1987, at the Davis County Courthouse. The inscription reads, "Presented "Pre-sented to Davis County in honor of the Bicentennial of the Constitution,, Constitu-tion,, by the Farmington-Centerville Farmington-Centerville area Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Oct. 19, 1987." Mary Johnson, president of the Farmington-Centerville DUP, was master of ceremonies and spoke ot historical events. Opening the program were Boy Scouts Mark Faldmo, Jason Giat-ras, Giat-ras, Chad Berbert and Mike Peterson Peter-son of Farmington Troop 104 of the Farmington Sixth Ward, posting the colors and leading the pledge of allegiance. Annarae Ploeger, second vice president of the county DUP, gave the prayer. The audience sang "America the Beautiful" directed by Ofa Lillywhite and daughter Suzanne. Mrs. Johnson introduced Bill Peters, Pe-ters, commissioner, who spoke and accepted the plaque for the county. The Ruth Gatrell Singers provided pro-vided a patriotic number. Maude Mayfield and Irene Olsen placed the plaque in front of the honey locust tree which the group planted in 1987. There was a quote from "The Constitution Revered" from Pres. Brigham Young's farewell address to the Mormon Battalion July 1846 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. "I want to say to every man, the Constitution of the United States, as framed by our fathers, was dictated, dic-tated, was revealed, was put into their hearts by the Almighty who dwells in the Heavens; and I tell you in the name of Jesus Christ it is as good as ever I could ask for. I say unto you, magnify the laws. There is no law in the United States, or in the Constitution, but I am ready to make honorable." kj |
