Show Outlook Equal Education By JOHN CHARLES BERNHARDT Oakridge is a name that will soon be burned into the history of Salt Lake. Oakridge is an elementary school located at 4325 South on Jupiter Drive. It is a superb monument monu-ment to quality education. The very fact that it exists is almost beyond belief. I first came to know Oakridge when I went there to observe for my Education 121 class at the University. Uni-versity. I came away with mixed area. Children at Oakridge have good clothes and good food which many children in the valley lack. The situation is intolerable. All Entitled America mustrealize that all children are entitled to a good education. edu-cation. It does not matter that a child's parents make $3,000 a year. All children are important. No child is more important than any other child. I was overjoyed for the children at Oakridge. Oak-ridge. I was angry for the children at dozens of other elementary schools in the valley. At Oakridge it is a thrill to walk down the halls. The lighting at Oakridge is fantastic, air conditioning condition-ing is present, and it is necessary to count the children in a classroom class-room before you can believe there are really 30 of them. Granite School Distrint may be very proud of Oakridge. Contrast There are other elementary schools in this valley which are not at all like Oakridge. At these schools one can find poor lighting, hot rooms, lack of facilities, and worst of all forgotten children. These schools are monuments to inferior education. The education of children is one of the most important activities of any government. A government must see that all children receive the same quality of education. Failure Fail-ure to meet this responsibility means the eventual end of any government. gov-ernment. The children at Oakridge are receiving re-ceiving an education which is in almost every way superior to that received by the children at many other elementary schools in the area. At Oakridge children don't have to come to school without undershirts because their classrooms class-rooms are too hot. Children at Oakridge have materials which are in almost every way superior to those at many other schools in the valley. Teachers at Oakridge are in general of better quality than those at many other -schools in the |
