Headlines such as the preceding preced-ing tend to rock the nation, tearing at its foundations. Yet within the last five years, the number of racial uprisings has doubled and even tripled. The effects of racial prejudice, preju-dice, the fires, the illiteracy and the marches grow more and more pronounced. Cities and towns, large and small, feel the terrible forces of prejudice which are smothering their nation. na-tion. Racial prejudice does not just exist. It is a creation of the American people. Racial prejudice preju-dice can only be eliminated by destroying the soul of the prejudice, the cause of the problem. But just what has caused this opposing force which tears our nation apart? The Problem of Unity The cause can be traced back through history. his-tory. The foundations are relevant even in the early Roman culture. Prejudice begins when any society claims its superiority over another an-other society. Just as in Rome, today's society is divided. There is Black Power, White Supremacy, Su-premacy, and no unity. Unity is needed to organize or-ganize and equalize society. Because of the past division of societies, the age-old problem is built of sturdy bricks called traditions. An individual is not born with prejudice, prejuidce is born in the individual. indi-vidual. It grows because society nurtures and feeds it. Because of the traditional ties individuals in-dividuals have with past beliefs, prejudice grows. From this genesis of racial prejudice, many more causes of today's violence have matured. Racial prejudice grows because hate and fear of individualism, thinking for one's self grows. The atmosphere, the social status, and pressures pres-sures nurture prejudice on an individual level. Prejudice Will Continue On the other hand, prejudice also grows in the deprived, the other side of the mirror. These individuals want to improve themselves and their society. They want the rights the freedom which the Constitution secures. Jealousy Jeal-ousy and perhaps hope cause these people to show prejudice, bitterness and determination The need for an education, a voice in government, gov-ernment, good housing forces this prejudice to manifest itself with violence, destruction and looting. These people lack a voice to communicate com-municate their pleas and needs. Without a voice and immediate action prejudice will continue. con-tinue. Bridging the Gap Their violence isn't just an individual creation. cre-ation. Man, white, black, Mongolian, and Mexican, Mex-ican, has created an egotistical society which forces the individual only to look after his personal needs. Society's lack of responsibi l ity to isten is the principle cause of prejudice Unless the gaps between the tradition bound classes are crossed, prejudice wiS cot tinue to devasate our way of life. Racial prejudice prej-udice can only be overcome on an indivfdual level, when every American equates the races mto one - the race of man. Until each and every American destroys the poison in his heart the onslaught of violence will continue to tear at our nation - a nation once founded on freedom and equality. u"uea |
