Show iiiiilllSIIIIIIllIIIllllillllllllllllH!" X Bv SECOND-GUESSER The Milford Lady Lions can . ff their bonnets and take a & ! m to the plaudits of theMil-! theMil-! ford citizenry. The Christmas '- decorations, completed early this week when lights were placed on the little trees adorn-: adorn-: ing the base of the light standards stand-ards on Main street, are really something to get ecstatic over " it's a neat and attractive job. ladies, and The News joins the rest of the citizens in saying .-Thanks and congratulations." But the lighting contest seems to be dragging a little. We have noticed very few business hous- es or homes decked out in the traditional Yuletide color and sparkle. Maybe most of them ftjj are waiting for someone else, or waiting for a little Christmas spirit. Let's ALL decorate this week-end. Maybe the absence - A of lights and "spirit" is the rea-son rea-son there's so little gaety and ' anticipation in Milford this year. w Wednesday night a lazy misty drizzle settled in over Milford, and the tiny drops of water froze as fast as they hit any solid surface. Cars were coated with J ice. and the streets and side-' side-' walks were a veritable sheet of glass. ,. 1 The fire laddies, acting on the suggestion of city councilmen. loaded the fire truck with bags of salt and helped some at alleviating alle-viating the dangerous condi-by condi-by spreading the ice-melt-'t aroand the downtown section. I - A heavy overcast kept the I ice from thawing Thursday, but I sunny skies were promised for Friay. . In a front page news story in last week's Beaver Press, reporting re-porting the Senator Watkins legislative clinic at Beaver, Editor Ed-itor Merkley stated that "The question of Universal Military Training met with nearly 100 disapproval by Beaver County residents.' ' We'll have to take issue with Editor Merkley As we ' recall the U M T discussion at the dinic, attended by some 60 or 65 of the 4900 Beaver County residents, one or two persons asked questions regarding Uni-A Uni-A versal Military Training, and k only two a man and his wife actually spoke in opposition to the program. We believe "nearly 100" of the people of the county are opposed to war, and basically rebel at sending young boys into nilitary training centers, but we also believe that the vast majority of the people realize that preparedness is the best insurance in-surance against disaster, and because of necessity they favor u M T as they favor -having fire insurance on their homes and liability insurance on their cars. For the benefit of those who are nice enough to write their news items and bring them to The News office and find the door locked while we're making business calls we have placed 1 mail slot in the front door. , So now when we're not here, Just write us a note. |
