Show Christmas tree cutting not permitted here Some people may find that their Christmas tree costs them much more than usual if they try tp cut their own tree illegally. Anyone cutting trees on the Uinta National Forest this Christmas season will be guilty of a state and federal offense and may be heavily fined. No trees are offered for cutting cut-ting this year because the only trees that could be cut without impairing watershed protection along the Wasatch Front, or marring the scenic beauty of canyon roads and trails, are in the high country where they are inaccessible because of the snow. However, specific areas are offered for public tree-cutting by the Bureau of Land Management Man-agement and the Manti-LaSal National Forest. The Bureau of Land Management Manage-ment has authorized the cutting cut-ting of pinion pine trees in the South Creek Area near Beaver. The trees can be cut without charge December 6 and 7 only, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interested Interes-ted persons can reach the cutting cut-ting area by traveling two miles south of Beaver on the South Creek Road. Manti-LaSal The Manti-LaSal National Forest is offering trees for Christmas cutting in Manti, Six-Mile and 12-Mile Canyons. The white fir and alpine fir may be cut at any time on an individual basis. A one-dollar permit for cutting cut-ting must be obtained at the Forest office in the Manti Post Office building Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. A pickup with chains is highly high-ly recommended for reaching the cutting areas. |
