Show IN EXHIBIT One of the many interesting inter-esting designs of pottery to be seen in the forthcoming pottery and weaving exhibition at the Springville Art Gallery, made by the artist, Crescent B. Dern, instructor of the art department at Weber State College in Ogden. The artist will be honored at an opening social Sunday at 2 p.m. at gallery. Pottery, weaving exhibit opens at gallery of pinching and squeezing clay are vestigal responses stimulated by subconscious memories of man's primordial primor-dial groping to control his Springville Art Association Associa-tion will sponsor a one-man one-man pottery and weaving show at the art gallery starting Sunday, January 5 and continuing through January 30. Bruce Braith-waitc, Braith-waitc, director, made the announcement today. Artists whose works will be exhibited during the month is Crescent B. Deru, instructor of the art department de-partment at Weber State College in Ogden A reception recep-tion will be held for Mrs. Deru Sunday, January 12, at the gallery. Asked why she began her pottery and weaving, she said: "To search for the reason why we make pots and weave fabric in this age when the economic econom-ic nsed is unimportant goes back to man's beginnings. begin-nings. Just as the urge to interlace fibers is a rag of memory bequeathed to us from our progenitors and forever woven into our very nervous system, feel the joy environment. Perhaps this is the reason why I felt such a strong and uncontrollable physical and emotional need to express myself in potting and weaving." Mrs. Deru has her A. A. degree at Weber State; B.A. from the University of Utah and MFA from Utah State University. She has awards from the American Cra ftsmen's Council, award of merit; Utah Designer Craftsmen, Utah State Fair, Utoh State Institute of Fine Arts, Women's Wo-men's International Exposition, Exposi-tion, New York and Ogden outdoor show. She has exhibited in numerous num-erous state shows in Utah and also in Nebraska, California Cal-ifornia and Texas. She has written for a number of publications and is the writer of "Handbook for Judges and Expositions" Als, 1965. She will exhibit over 50 items in the current show to open at the gallery Sunday.
