Show EDITORIAL Qualifications for Nebo clerk should be listed by board As reported in the Springville Herald last week, Mr Dale Schimmelpfennig has resig-ned as clerk of the Nebo School District to take a position in Weber School District. Since that issue appeared on the streets, the district has advertised that the position is vacant and asked for individuals to submit their applications to the district office in Spanish Fork. However, the advertisement was not placed in any media published within the district. As in tire past, no qualifications for the job were listed, nor what should be included in the application in the way of references, experience, etc., and furthermore, the advertisement did not state that at least one person has already been approached and that he, for some reason or another, had declined the position. Also, when this newspaper called the district office in Spanish Fork to garner information concerning the processes by which the new clerk is being chosen, the only information was that Superintendent Russell Stans-field Stans-field was out of town and the advertisement for filling the clerk's position was quoted to this newspaper, in which it was stated that all applications should be in the district office by October 4. The only conclusion that this newspaper can come to is that if anyone were applying for the position they would get the same answer, and it is therefore hard for this newspaper to understand how the district is getting applications when the superintendent is out of the office. Furthermore, this newspaper can not understand how the board of education can advertise for applicants for i the position of clerk when it has already considered someone some-one else for the job. Where did his application come from ? i And last of all, does the board already have someone else in mind but feels that it must ask for applications in order to get this person to apply, and if this be the case, is it fair to all others who might apply for the position ' This newspaper feels that the Nebo Board of Educa- ' tion should be more open about the selection of a new 1 clerk. We feel that the board, if it truly wants applications appli-cations for its clerk, should spell out what the qualifica-) qualifica-) tions are for the job and what will be expected of an , indivdual accepting the position. t If, on the other hand, the board has someone already in mind for the position, they should appoint that person and forget about getting applications. We also feel that when the board advertises for any position that they should use all legal media including that which is pro- r duced within the district. |
