Show Construction begins on Bonneville Unit; local contractor gets bid Actual construction work was begun on March 29 on the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project, said Palmer B. DeLong, Project Manager at the Central Utah Projects Office Of-fice of the Bureau of Reclamation. Reclama-tion. The initial work consists primarily of clearing the area preparatory to constructing the Starvation Dam. This marks the beginning of the largest water development ever undertaken under-taken in Utah. Contracts have been awarded for the construction of Starvation Starva-tion Dam, Knight Diversion Dam, and Starvation Feeder Conduit which comprise the Starvation complex. The three contracts total $9,970,120. Knight Diversion Dam, 5 miles north of Duchesne, will divert water from the Duchesne River into the Starvation Feeder Conduit. Con-duit. Water will be conveyed in the conduit for storage in the Starvation Reservoir. Awarded bids Good fellow Brothers, Inc. from Wanatchee, Washington submitted the lowest of 11 bids at $8,1827,50 for Starvation Dam. They were awarded a contract on March 7 and received re-ceived notice to proceed with construction on March 16. Construction Con-struction of the dam will take about 3 years. The completion date is scheduled for March 20, 1970. Starvation Dam, located 3 miles northwest of Duchesne, will be on Strawberry River. It will be 155 feet high, 2,900 feet long and will contain about 4 million cubic yards of embankment materials. W. W. Clyde and Co, of Springville, was the low bidder for the Starvation Feeder Conduit Con-duit at $1,250,035. A contract was awarded March 17 with a notice to proceed with construction construc-tion on March 21. A completion date was set for November 10, 1968. W. W. Clyde Construction Co. is now moving equipment into the area. Official ground breaking ceremonies cer-emonies under the sponsorship of the Central Utah Water Conservancy District have been slated for June 1. A contract was awarded United Uni-ted Structures, Inc. of Dolores, Colorado, on March 10 to build the Knight Diversion Dam. The notice to proceed with construction construc-tion was issued March 24 and the completion date mas set for August 5, 1968. A low bid of $537,335 was received and work on the diversion dam will begin in the verv near future. According to the results of a survey made by the National Federation of Independent Business, Bus-iness, U.S. small businessmen forsee hardships from the federal fed-eral minimum wage hike: 35.6 per cent predict higher prices, 23.4 per cent see a dip in employment em-ployment and 41 per cent view a drop in profits. |
