Show Music club group hears fine program Marian Christensen and Margaret Mar-garet Smith were hostesses to the Springville Federated Music Club at the Christensen home Friday evening. Mary Schreiv-er Schreiv-er read the club collect and Carol Manwaring presented the program, a continuation of Tin Pan Alley music. She described the period when the main stage outlet for Tin Pan Alley music was the operetta, musical comedy and review. Composers at the time included among others, Kerns, Gershwin, Rogers and Youmans and later, Cole Porter. One young Russian was induced by Gershwin to write popular music mu-sic and "April in Paris" resulted result-ed in 1932. The time came when people no longer wanted to make music mu-sic ' for themselves but to have music played at them and the popularity of a song was measured mea-sured by the record sales. Taking part on the program of the evening were Annie For-shee For-shee and Carol Clark, Monta Felix, Mary Bird and singing by the group.
