Show j Spring sports end Saturday with state finals scheduled In a combination Region Four and Northern and Southern South-ern division track meet held at the BYU stadium last Friday, Fri-day, Lehi won the region meet while Springville got fifth. Point totals for the schools were as follows: Lehi, 61; Or-em, Or-em, 45; Provo and Pleasant Grove, 41 each; Payson, 38; Springville, 26; Spanish Fork, 19; American Fork, 14; BY High, 5; and Carbon 3. Winning the northern division divis-ion was Orem while Provo won the southern division. Provo tallied 79,. followed close behind with 70 by the Red Devils. Payson had 68, Spanish Fork picked up 56 and Carbon 21. Alan Watts placed first in broad jump and set a new record rec-ord with his 21 foot 8 inch jump. Alan also placed fifth in the 100 and 220. David Giles took second in the 880 and Pete Orton came in second in the 440. Springville Spring-ville placed second in the 880 relay and fourth in the mile relay. Southern division meet In the southern division meet results were tabulated for SHS competitors as follows: high hurdles Hjorth, fourth; 100 Watts, third; mile, Handling Hand-ling third; Newbury, fourth; 440 Orton first; low hurdles Hjorth, fifth; 880, Giles, first; Tuttle, third; 220 Watts, second; Miner, fifth; high jump Everett, Aver-ett Aver-ett fourth and fifth; broad jump Watts, first; K. Jensen, Jen-sen, fourth; shot put Jensen, third; Averett, fifth; discus Westman, second. Tennis In tennis, Val Christensen and Dave Bird have qualified for the state finals in the singles. sin-gles. I Baseball The Devils lost a thriller in baseball to Spanish Fork 7-8 to hand the Forkers the title for the Southern Division. State track and tennis finals will be held Saturday; May 21 in Salt Lake City. Top three placers qualify. |
