Show Mapleton News Mrs. Blake Everett The Mapleton School held their May Day Festival Monday Mon-day evening. Practically the whole town turned out to see the children sing dance and perform in many ways. The program was held at the back of the school where the building build-ing forms an L, shape. The building was decorated with huge characters from popular stories. The children sat behind be-hind a little white picket fence which was draped with spring flowers. Twelve colorful May poles were set up on the lawn to the north, and most of the children participated in this old-time favorite dance, as the opening number of the show. A huge world with a doorway made the entrance for each of the classes to pass through as they did their special numbers. Recorded music was used as accompaniment for some of the numbers, and others were accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Geraldine Davies on the piano. The theme of the show was "It's a Child's World." Mr. Ralph Poulsen, school principal, took charge of the program. Mrs. Emma Hjorth was hostess hos-tess to the Camp Union DUP Thursday evening. The meeting was conducted by Captain Af-ton Af-ton Barker. She reported on the county meeting held in Payson last week. President Kate Carter was there to give inspiration to the women for carrying on this organization, and to urge them to continue to gather the histories of the early pioneers. The lesson on "Sheep Raising in Early Utah" was given by Berniece Everett. Lois Bartholomew was a special spec-ial guest who came to show her beautiful family history book, and tell how her family has organized in getting the material for this book. County Captain Mray Smart has asked that all DUP members make a greater effort this coming year to get histories typed and sent into county head quarters. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. Hjorth and assisting hostesses hos-tesses Grace Norwood and Helen Wiscombe. Little League baseball will start in Mapleton this week. The first game will be played Tuesday at 5 cm. at the Little League ball park. Juan Whiting and Joe Richmond's teams will be competing. Another game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. af-ternoon. Mrs. Martin Perrero Sr. was taken to the Price Hospital Saturday, where she was in a coma for several days. Mrs. Perrero has been ill for the past year and has been staying stay-ing with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr .and Mrs. Frank Carnesecca for several months. Two weeks ago her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Perrero of Helper Help-er took her to their home for a few weeks visit. She is reported re-ported to be improving, having recovered from the coma on Monday. Mapleton DUP met at the home of Marva Whiting Thursday Thurs-day afternoon. The lesson was given by Martha Whiting, after af-ter which Eva Bird entertained the group with poems and bits of wisdom read from her literature lit-erature scrapbook. They also enjoyed a piano solo by Stella Stevens. Being the last meeting meet-ing until fall, the group celebrated cele-brated with a potluck luncheon. |
