Show i ! i Home Culture Federated Club observes 65th anniversary An outstanding record of accomplishments ac-complishments over the past 65 J ! years, was reviewed by mem-! mem-! bers of the Home Culture Club, at a special anniversary program, pro-gram, Friday afternoon of last week directed by the president, . Mrs. Harrison Conover, at the art building. Attending was the full club membership with exception of one out of the state and their guests making a total of 64 i members and guests on hand to enjoy the occassion. Presi-i Presi-i ; dent Conover welcomed mem- bers and guests and Mrs Jane i Strong read the collect, i An interesting part of the program was furnished by ' ; Mrs. Max Alleman, who dis-j dis-j played a large trunk and from ! it brought the club's record ! books telling of the many civic !i projects accomplished by the organization over the years. Study of music, art and gov-i gov-i ernment affairs was taken up ' : in the programs and the club also donated to the town library. li-brary. Climaxing a year's study of art, they held an exhibit ex-hibit of pictures. In 1913, the women support- !: ed woman suffrage. They rolled i bandages during World War I, put on programs to raise funds for boxes to the veterans, assisted as-sisted other clubs in planting s seven, trees in the city park to i honor the srevice men, helped with the playground program on the city park and with the DUP monument, "Winged Vic-, Vic-, ' ; tory." They planted flowers around the old depot, had the club's name on the plaque in the art gallery iin 1934 and later la-ter presented a bench to the gallery. They also helped in ! many ways during World War ; n. This year's project is to plant trees on Main Street. All these projects and many more 1 were listed in the various record rec-ord books. A lovely scrapbook was presented pre-sented the club by Mrs. Conover Con-over in 1946 and it has been brought up to date. At intermissions of the history, his-tory, appropriate music was rendered with a medley of familiar fa-miliar songs, also duets and solo numbers given by Pat Sle- man of Mapleton and Bob ! Peirce, accompanied by Mrs. Maurice Bird. Mrs. Lewis Bird played "Trees" on the violin, accompanied by Mrs. Maurice Bird. An anniversary song written writ-ten by Mrs. Camille Judd with arrangement by Glen Law, was sung by Mrs. Richard Miiner, ' ! Mrs. Martin Conover and Mrs. Marshall Fox who were later joined by the entire group. Memorium In memory of the three members of the club who have passed away during the year, Mrs. Jay Harmer, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Fay Page, Mrs. Tom Judd, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Allen Pennington, Mapleton; Mrs. John Okey, Provo; Mrs. Mary Smart, Mrs. William S. Alleman, Mrs. Wallace Clegg, Mrs. Marshall Fox, Mrs. Sylvia Syl-via Crandall, Mrs. Lee Sumsion, Mrs. R. L. Wilson, Mrs Anthony An-thony Medved, Mrs. John Thompson, Mrs. Hattie Williams, Wil-liams, Mrs. Merrill Nielson, Maxine Nielson, Mrs. Burt Taylor, Mrs Sue Bonsper, Mrs. Robert Ogle, Provo; Katherine Dunett, Los Angeles. Guests Special guests included Mrs. Richard Morrison, district- president, pres-ident, Delta; Mrs. Wendell Winger, UFWC vice president; Mrs. W. C. Harrison, Spring-ville Spring-ville Council president; Mrs. Roger Neilson of Salina; Mrs. Albert Clark, Orem; Mrs. George Wright, Springv i 1 1 e. Daughter of members honored, Mrs. Bonnie Decker, daughter of Mrs Beardall, was unable to attend. Former members who had served as presidents, Mrs. Blanch Beal, Mrs. Arthur Con-die Con-die and Mrs. Joe Vane of Salt Lake City were also honored. A gift of appreciation for a fine year, was presented to Mrs. Conover, who turned the gavel over to Mrs. Martin Conover Con-over together with the replica of a diamond ring to signify the Golden Jubilee of federated clubs this year. A beautiful birthday cake topped with a reproduction of the Golden Jubilee diamond! ring added to- the attractive J color theme, carried out in floral arrangements in the' club's colors of yellow and green. A nicely arranged lunch was served by the hostesses at small tables in the south gallery. gal-lery. Lovely porcelain toothpick tooth-pick holders brought from Mexico by Mrs. Conover, retiring re-tiring president, were given as favors. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Wendell Nielson, Mrs. Russen Bird, Mrs. Earl Cook, Mrs. A. M. Lyall, Mrs. Camilla Judd, Mrs. Dean Nielson, Niel-son, Mrs. Glen S. Peery Mrs. Don Watts and Mrs. J. F. Wingate. Housewives have found a way to relieve tensions. Almost Al-most daily six ladies are seen running around their neighborhood. neighbor-hood. Mrs. Marion Phillips, one of the promoters, said it was an excellent way to battle the pressures of house work as well as the waistline. Americans are practicing more togetherness now that we j have more interstate highways. Mrs. Gwen Baxter, Mrs. Na-! Na-! , omi Beardall and Mrs Harold Christensen, a lovely poem was ' composed and read by Mrs. i Judd. It was presented to the ii daughters of the three members, mem-bers, who had been invited as special guests. Later Mrs. Lew- i is Bird, accompanied by Mrs. i Maurice Bird, played, "Ave I Maria," on the violin. ! Mrs. Judd also read a poem ! she had composed for Mrs. Maurice Bird, "Touch of Ivory Keys," afterwhich Mrs. Bird played a medley of piano music. mu-sic. ' A bud vase and rose were ' presented three members of I the club, Mrs. A. M. Lyall, Mrs. Mildred Boorman and Mrs. J. F. Wingate for the longest memberships in the club and also to three past presidents, former members. Mrs. Blanch Beal gave the response from : -i the past presidents.
