Show Club hears about music boxes Mrs. Pat Whiting was the guest speaker at the meeting of the Cultural Arts Club on Wednesday of last week, when Mrs. LaRhea Twelves was hostess. hos-tess. Mrs. Whiting, assisted by her daughter, Patricia, exhibited her collection of music boxes and played records of music of music boxes. She also gave the history of music boxes, noting that a good music box is rare these days as they were not made after the advent of the phonograph. Pictures were also al-so shown of the different ways music boxes were built into instruments. Three candidiates for city office, of-fice, Dr. Wilford G. Biesinger for mayor on the People's Party; Par-ty; Cal Packard, for mayor on the Citizen's Party and Leonard Leon-ard James for councilman, on the Citizen's Party, spoke. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the program to 20 club members. Next meeting was announced for Nov. 3, to be at the home of Genevieve Whiting, Mapleton. Because girls are not allowed to visit in dormitories of Columbia Co-lumbia College a majority of the students live off campus, a recent survey showed. |
