Show Highway, road projects announced for this area next three years According to report this week, considerable highway work is being planned for this vicinity in the next two or three years. Construction of the three overpasses ov-erpasses and surfacing of four miles of freeway route from 4th South, west of Springville to Center Street in Provo, is waiting the settling of fill recently re-cently placed and it is expected expec-ted that this project estimated in the neighborhood of $1,500 000 will be up for bids some time next year. In a related $350,000 project on the access road to the free way, from Springville on 4th South, may be postponed for a while, according to Earl Johnson, John-son, district engineer. This project involves grading, draining, drain-ing, construction of an overpass over-pass and paving. Mr. Johnson said that settling of fill along the access route is a big factor. fac-tor. A nine-mile segment of the freeway from 4th South in Springville to Payson, which involves six overpasses and paving, at an estimated cost of $3,300,000 will be bid as soon as funds from the federal government are available. Mr. Johnson reported that projects for which funds have not yet been allocated by the federal government, cannot be bid until un-til funds are ready. Another road project among three recently approved by Utah County at a total cost of $245,000 is at 9th South eastward from 4th East to a connection with 1600 East St., below the hill on which Hobble Creek Road travels. Cost of this project is estimated esti-mated at approximately $70 000 and involves construction of a bridge over Hobble Creek. Total length of the road, which is scheduled to begin after July 1, 1968, is 1.3 miles with a short amount of it on the west end, in the city. The projected pro-jected road will touch on the south boundary of the site of the proposed new high school. The other two projects approved ap-proved by the county is replacement re-placement of the Saratoga Bridge across Jordan River and the long-sought lengthening md improvement of Orem's Center St. Work on the three projcts is expected to run from 1966 through 1968 and will be financed under the federal-secondary- aid for county roads |
