Show Church slow-pitch Softball starts CEDAR CITY - The Cedar Stake Senior Division Slow Pitch Softball League play began May 26 and games were played at 6 p.m., 7, p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. l and will continue on Wednesday evenings for s the next eight weeks at the Church Softball field. j e In the early game the 1 Fourth Ward defeated the t Indian Branch 12-6, and the 7 p.m. game saw the 12th Ward victorious over the Third Ward 11-8. The third game of the evening proved to be a real thriller as extra innings were necessary before the First Ward could nip the 18th ward 13-12. The First Ward jumped out to a 3-2 lead after three innings of play, only to see the 18th Ward rally for six runs in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning the First Ward came through with its own six run barrage. At the end of six innings the score was knotted at eleven runs each. In the top of the seventh inning the 18th Ward scored one run when Bob Piatt rapped a triple and scored after eluding a rundown between third and home. This gave them a 12-11 lead. Batting in the bottom of the seventh the First Ward tied the score at 12-12 and with two outs Gerald Howes singled to drive across the winning run. The 9 p.m. game found the Fifth Ward coming out on the short end of a 17-9 score. Big stick for the victorious 14th Ward was Kevin Robinson who went three for four with two doubles and a single. Craig Barrick powered a home run and made some dazzling catches in left field in a losing cause. |
