Show Chief clears kidnapping rumors CEDAR CITY Kidnapping rumors and more spread last Friday in Cedar City when one small incident was blown out of proportion, explained Cedar City Police Chief Doug Bolton. "What actually happened," said Bolton, "is that a boy was walking to school Friday morning when some guy took his picture, offered him some candy and money, and probably asked the kid to get in the car. The kid then beat it out of there and ran to school where he told the principal who reported the incident to us." After North Elementary School principal Dee Smith reported what had happened to the police, the polie were in the area investigating. The youth told the police that the car that had stopped him was silver with gold on it and that an older man was in the car. Bolton said that the police located a car and older man and put him under surveillance. However, it wasn't the man or the car involved in the incident. Bolton explained that all day panicked parents called the police department, further spreading rumors. "We don't want parents to get panicked and spread rumors to others about what they know nothing about," said Bolton, who suggested that parents know where their kids are and what they are doing. Then, "if something does happen, they need to notify the police immediatley," he added. |
