Show Parowan fares nicely ST. GEORGE - The Dixie Invitational track meet provided the scene for a fifth place Parowan Ram finish Saturday and the first individual victory vic-tory in the history of Parowan's involvement in the meet. The Rams nabbed 30 points to finish fifth in division one out of 15 schools. Many schools in Parowan's division were 2-A schools, making the going more difficult for the smaller 1-A Ram-s. Ram-s. Scott Freeborn provided the fireworks for Parowan as he captured cap-tured a win in the quarter-mile, sprinting the oval in 52.3 seconds. The victory was a first for any Parowan trackster ever at the Dixie Invitational. In-vitational. Don Rex and Dough Rogerson set a new school record in the high jump by leaping 6 feet 1 inch. Freeborn finished fourth in the pole vault, going 11 feet 6 inches. Additional team points were picked up in the two mile where Lloyd Baker finished fourth with a time of 10:43. North Sevier was the only 1-A school to beat Parowan, and Ram coach Bob Tobler was very pleased with the performance per-formance of his kids. "I felt really good about the meet," he commented. Parowan could be a team to watch in state l-A l-A track competition. If the Rams can bring along several other potential point-getters, they could be tough to beat, said Tobler. |
