Show Notice is hereby given that ' tentative approval was given to CF&I Steel Corporation Cor-poration by the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining to commence open pit iron mining in portions of Townships 36 and 37 South, Ranges 13 and 14 West, Iron County, Utah. The name of the mine is the Comstock Mine, and the person representing the company in this matter is Mr.' James Hale, Resident Engineer, CF&I Steel Corporation, P. O. Box 100, Cedar City, Utah 84720. CF&I Steel Corporation has fulfilled obligations under the Mined Land Reclamation Act of 1975 (Section 40-8, U.C.A., 1953 as amended) and will employ the follwing reclamation techniques on 260 acres which comprise the land affected. Legal access to the land affected is by lease agreements and patented and unpatented mining claims. CF&I Steel Corporation Cor-poration has committed to the following: During Operations: 1. Mining will be conducted con-ducted in a safe, orderly, and minerlike fashion. 2. Water encountered by the mine workings is impounded im-pounded in a closed basin drainage and returns to the ground. 3. The pit is being developed by blasting of the rock. A 40-foot safety bench is I left evert 75 vertical feet, resulting in a 1:1 slope overall. 4. Waste; is deposited in dumps by end-dumping and grading. 5. Methods of revegetation are being developed through test plots for end uses of wildlife and livestock grazing. After Operations: 1. Extraneous debris, scrap metal and wood, and unuseable buildings will be removed form the surface of the site. 2. Fences or berms will be placed along remaining highwalls. 3. Waste dumps will be stablized through regarding and establishing vegetation . as determined by testing of different methods and species during the life of the mine. 4. Surface drainage contours will be established for prevention of water ponding. - 5. Compacted surfaces . such as access roads will be scarified and graded to a smooth contour and revegetated. 6. All seeded areas will be monitored until vegetation is established, in accordance with Rule M-10(12). Reclamation performan ce surety arrangements have been made with the Board and the Division. Any persons or agency aggreived by this tentative decision is hereby requested to submit written protest within 30 days from May 1, 1980 to the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, 1588 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116,. setting forth factual reasons for his or her complaint, and thereafter, at a time and place heretobe established, appear before the Board of Oil, Gas and Mining, to show cause, if any there be, why this plan should not be approved. ap-proved.
