Show Blanchard Eli Whitney, 95 dies in Provo daughter: Homer K. Whitney of Provo, J. Gordon Whitney of Salt Lake City ',' . - ,f k -: 1 Blanchard Eli Whitney ,95, of Parowan died May 5, 1980 in Provo of natural causes. He was born Oct. 28, 1884, the seventh of twelve children, to Eli Alger and Elizabeth Anne Lewis Whitney. His grandparents on his father's side were Frances Tuft and Clarissa Alger Shitney. His grandparents grand-parents on his mother's side were David and Elizabeth Carson Lewis. BE. (Blanch) started working in the blacksmith shop with his father when he was fourteen years old and worked at the trade until he retired. AS farmers got trucks and tractors, there was less wagon work and horse shoeing. There was never much cash taken in for work, but plenty of wood, hay potatoes and other foods. When he was six years old he started to school in a little log school house. He had a good tenor voice and sang in the choir and in quartets at an early age. He later played the drums in the city band. On Oct. 22, 1922 he married his sweeheart Zella Rose in the St. George Temple. He was a memeber of the LDS Church serving as a high priest at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife and two sons and one Blanchard Whitney and Mrs. Ralph LaMar (Elaine) Duke of Provo; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 8 at 1 p.m. in the Parowan LDS 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Reginald Hughes officiating.
