Show T-bird Golfers place 2nd in Clovis Meet and 84. University of Southern Colorado claimed the RMAC crown followed by SUSC with Ft. Lewis third. Eastern New Mexico, Grand Canyon and Denver University are not members of the RMAC but participated par-ticipated in the District 7 competition. Southern Utah State College golf team returned from the District 7 NAIA and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference combined tournaments held at Clovis, N. M. Friday and Saturday with two second place finishes and two members of the team selected for special honors. Coach Tom Kingsford indicated that the T-Birds finished second behind Eastern New Mexico to Ue for second place honrs in the District 7 portion of the competition. At the District level ENM team total was 914 with the T-Birds and Grand Canyon finishing at 925. They were followed by Ft. Lewis with 928, Western States 952, New Mexico Highlands 959, Colorado School of Mines 959, Denver University 973, Mesa 981, Regis 1030 and Adams State College 1064. University of Southern Colorado captured the RMAC title and medalist honors by firing a team score of 910. USC elected not to compete in the District competition as they have been i invited to participate in an NCAA level tournment, Coach Kingsford stated. Top golfer for the SUSC Thunderbirds was Kevin Averett of Cedar City. A sophomore, he fired a par 72 in the opening round of play but fell back to rounds of 77 and 78 to finish with 227 over 54 holes and fourth place in the medalist competition. Averett, however, was named to the All District and the All RMAC golf teams as the result of his outstanding play. Medalist honors went to Moncrief f of USC who fired a 221, for the tournament. Finishing in fifth place and named to the All RMAC team was Kevin Gallacher, a SUSC freshman from Cortez, Colo. He had rounds of 77, 76 and 77 for a total of 230. Dean Cooper, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., finished in seventh place with a score of 233. He had rounds of 78, 77 and 78. In 10th place was Dalton Driggers, a sophomore of Salt Lake City with rounds of 74, 80 and 82 for a 236 over all score. In 19th place was Rhett Long, a sophomore from Richfield.
