Show Co nzexva t ion BY , ; BRENT FARNSWORTH CONSERVATION OFFICER FOR BEAVER COUNTY ' VWvJW,r.-r,-r. J- i t- i v , I am pleased with the public pub-lic response that I have received re-ceived as a result of the earlier deer kills in Beaver County. I have had numerous people tell me that they have been watching for illegal shooting and have been reporting report-ing suspicious activities to me. I appreciate the help I have received thus far, especially es-pecially to those who have left their camps at night to investigate shooting which has occured in the late hours. The deer herds look good this year. The large groups of bucks are starting to form and they appear to be in good shape. I am seeing a lot more of the larger bucks in my travels. Hopefully this is an indication that the herds are much more healthy than they have been. I haven't seen many young fawns this year. Most of the does that are seen without fawns are not fawnless, but rather have them hidden in the cover nearby. If you come across a young spotted spot-ted fawn that is alone and appears abandoned, please, don't pek it up or take it home. The mother is usually off feeding and has left the fawn lying in the brush, where it's natural camoflague protects pro-tects it. I have observed more and more people practicing up with their bows and arrows as the archery deer season draws near. The extra deer allowed allow-ed to successful archers has brought about an increased interest in the sport. I would hope that those who are planning plan-ning an archery hunt this year are taking the hunt seriously and trying to become proficient profi-cient archery shooters by practicing. A well placed arrow will kill any deer quite readily, but a poorly placed one leads to painful wounds which eventually kill the deer and leave the meat wasted. If archers take pride in their sport and be true "Sportsmen", "Sports-men", their sport will be more accepted by other hunters hunt-ers and landoweners as well as the general public. |
