They expect to operate the plant for a month. Specific objectives of the tests are: performance evaluation and confirmation confirma-tion of the power plant overhaul. over-haul. The power plant tests are a continuation of initial ini-tial field tests conducted March through May 1978, while Phillips was conducting con-ducting a six month reservoir reser-voir test. After completion Phillips Petroleum is expected ex-pected to resume its reservoir reser-voir test at well 54-3 in the next few weeks. The test at the Roosevelt Springs Geothermal Reservoir will likely be the final test be-for be-for a power plant will be built, hopefully sometime next year. The test was planned for June, and the well turned on on June 7th, but the test had to be aborted when a main valve bonnet cracked, requiring several days to shut the well in. However, this was accomplished without with-out damage to the well and the valve has now been replaced. re-placed. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory Lab-oratory of the California Institute In-stitute of Technology has been authorized by the Department of Energy to of the test, the one megawatt mega-watt plant will undergo testing test-ing for approximately six months each in Mexico, Italy and New Zealand. Phillips reservoir test L expected to produce information infor-mation on the effects of the .six month flow test on reservoir res-ervoir pressures, the reservoir res-ervoir capacity and its capability cap-ability to sustain continued production. The Republic drill rig which drilled a 12,500 foot well for McCulloch Oil has been removed when it failed to get production at that depth. Another hole was planned but has been postponed post-poned indefinitely. The Brinkerhoff Rig at Cove Fort, drilling for Union Oil ran into problems, and unable to get a return of drilling fluids, managed only a few feet in two weeks, has also abandoned that site. Union has been unsuccessful un-successful in several attempts at-tempts at Cove Fort, and it is not known when they will attempt another well. After the present flowtest it is expected that geothermal geother-mal activity will shut down until Phillips Petroleum gets approval for their initial 20 megawatt power plant. However, How-ever, several other companies com-panies may attempt tests in the Roosevelt Springs area this year. |
