Show Thanks, to both winners and losers ; What's that expression recently in ; vogue there's some good news and some bad news. It certainly applies to the municipal elections staged in Beaver county towns and cities last week. For the winners, It was pleasing we're sure, to receive an expression of confidence from fellow citizens at the ballot box. The experience had to be a satisfying one. But, conversely, the shattering experience of defeat de-feat Is generally tough to swallow. So, in the aftermath of the 1977 voting, we'd like to extend our congratulations to the winners and wish them well in the pursuit pur-suit of duties they've pledged themselves to for the next four years. And, we'd like to offer our best wishes to the losers. They won't be serving in local government, at least not this time. But we want them to know how much we appreciate their willingness to seek office. You know there's nothing that makes mandatory a person's entry onto the poli tical arena not under our form of government. gov-ernment. Those who accept a nomination also accept the possibility of defeat. It would be far easier to stand on the sidelines, as most of us do, and let the other guy run the risk. Let him put his hopes on the line. Let him suffer the jolt of defeat, if it comes. For those who won Tuesday, it means they will assume the reins of government in their various communities, doing so with promise of little financial reward. They have won for themselves myriad problems to solve, challenges to meet and citizens to please. Theirs will be a community service, a devotion of time and energy above and beyond that expected of their fellow citizens. We're grateful for them, for everyone whose name appeared on a municlapl election elec-tion ballot. Everyone of them deserves the gratitude grati-tude of the rest of us both the winners and the losers. |
