He said that it remains the responsibility respon-sibility of districts to determine de-termine whether or not they should legally share in those funds, then to abide by whatever what-ever decision is rendered in the courts. He said that to do otherwise would be neglect of the public interest as these funds, if acquired, would be 1 supplement to other tax revenues. The Board adopted the following fol-lowing as statement of philosophy phi-losophy of education. The Beaver County Board of Education and Profession -il Staff accept the view that education is a fundamental concern of a democratic society. so-ciety. Schools exist to insure in-sure perpetuation of the culture cul-ture by assuring opportunity opportuni-ty for development and ac -quisitlon of skills necessary for meaningful and successful success-ful living in a democratic I society. She said the speakers inspired in-spired her and got her excited ex-cited about coaching. It was very worthwhile. She said they stressed improving skills when working with new students in basketball and other competitive sports. Mr. Forest Addington, a Counselor at Milford High School, met with the Board and reviewed his program. Among other things he said his objective is to aid each student in establishing a career ca-reer goal. He said he wants to participate in the place- i ment of the normal school ; students as well as giving ' special attention continuous - 1 ly to the handicapped students. stu-dents. He will counsel on i work experiences. He an- swered many questions f posed by the Board members about his function as acoun- ! selor. i Supt. Haslem reported that the pupils from Greenville and the West Field are being be-ing transported on the morn- j ing run by the school bus driven by Mr. Dan Miles. i The stops have been worked ; out with the State Board of- j fice, the morning overload ; handled, and it appears the new arrangement is working work-ing out fine. Supt. Haslem presented a draft of a report card he would like to consider for use In grades 3 through 6 and he asked the Board to study ! the card and act on adoption later, after input and study through the year by teach- j ers, administrators, parents, par-ents, and central office personnel. per-sonnel. The Board agreed to hire an electrical engineer to survey the power used in the Milford High gymnasium. It was noted that this gymnasium gym-nasium uses considerably more kilowatt hours than the Beaver High gymnasium and It appears that there m ay be leakage in the power system. The Superintendent reported re-ported that Mr. Gregory Pitt had signed a contract to teach in the music department at ! Beaver High and is now on j the job. Mr. Breinholt has j left the school district. The Board moved that the regular meeting for December De-cember be set for 10:00 a.m. on December 14th. |
