Show Become involved Normally this time of year we try to write an Inspiring message to the graduating graduat-ing seniors. As a rule this message is pitched at our future leaders, the go-getters who will go to college and then strive to make their mark on the world. We challenge them to become doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs. This year, we'd like to challenge those seniors that set out to conquer the world. But we'd like to Include all those seniors who will stay In Beaver County and become part of the establishment. Whatever your dreams and whatever the promises of the future become involved. The greatest single failure of the American Amer-ican way of life In recent years is we've failed to get our young people involved. Most of you have been active in school affairs. Most who go on to college can continue pretty much the same life as you had in high school. There are planned activities activi-ties and spontaneous activities that will keep you Involved. But for those who don't go on to college or who have finished college and are entering the work -a -day world of your parents and friends you have to make an effort to become involved. Involvement can take many facets. There's politics, of course. You all thought of that. But few have the drive and desire at a young age to stand their ground in public office. Few have the experience that is needed to become involved in politics. But, don't go away! There's oodles of things you can become involved in. Be a scout leader, coach a Little League team, assist in 4-H, take an interest in community functions, celebrations, parades, horse races, whatever comes along. Join a service or fraternal organization. organiza-tion. Youll be surprised at the many fine things they accomplish for their community. The people you meet there are involved. They will help you become involved. Both you and the community you live in will be the better for It. "Red" |
