Show - -- . -.. ------------------- . . . - The VFW Auxiliary and other veterans organizations will honor dead veterans and the public is invited to participate. Much preparation has been made to distinguish veterans graves and to bring about this memorial ceremony. A solemn ceremonial service next Monday Mon-day in the Milford Cemetery will honor all veterans of the area who are buried there, according to Mrs. Dorothy Terry, VFWAux-illary VFWAux-illary President. Brand new wooden crosses will be placed on all veterans graves, and ornamented with flags. Plans call for a brief ceremony at 9:00 ajn. when members of veterans organizations organiza-tions will raise the flag. There will be a short prayer, a gun salute and Zeke Hickman will play taps. Mrs. Terry will place a wreath at the grave of the unknown soldier. The additional ceremonies came about when the VFW Auxiliary decided to make new flag holders as a project this year. Jim and Dora Smlthson donated the cost of the materials and flags, Including paint. Calvin Rogers and Bert McKeon made 53 of the crosses and then Charles Terry and son Chuck finished the last 15 and painted paint-ed them. The crosses are quite nice and are 24" high and 16" wide. They have a hole In the top to hold the flags. Mrs. Smlthson also served as chairman of Loyalty Week, just past, for V.F.W. Post 1546. Vickie Whiting wrote the following peom which expresses the feeling of the VFW. i |
