Show Commission on historical preservation visit in Denver group is scheduled to arrive late Friday afternoon, and will conduct their tour of the community on Saturday morning, before returning to Salt Lake City. With over 200 buildings of Members of the Governors Gover-nors Committee on Historical Histori-cal Preservation, and several sever-al officials from the Utah State Historical Society will be touring historical sites in Beaver -this weekend. The historical significance scattered scat-tered throughout the com -munity, the State Historical Society and a small group of local individuals are desirous de-sirous of having Beaver recognized rec-ognized as a National Historical His-torical District. Not only is this designation a very prestigious pres-tigious honor, shared by only a few other communities in the country, it also carries with it a numberof economic benefits as well. Designation as a National Historical District will most certainly attract the attention atten-tion of both the news media and the travel industry, providing pro-viding an added incentive to tourists to stop and visit the town. It will also pave the way for both private and Federal funding of preservation work. There is also a possibility that those who own historical histori-cal homes and buildings will become eligible for reductions reduc-tions in property taxes, and numerous other benefits that would otherwise be- impossible. impos-sible. Whether or not Beaver is nominated for this honor will depend on a large degree on the success of this week's visit by the Committee. If they are favorably impress -ed, then it, along with several sev-eral other communities in the state, will be nominated. And while personnel at the State Historical Society will not say what the chances are of actually winning the designation, des-ignation, they do concede that Beaver ranks among the top two or three sites currently cur-rently under consideration in the state of Utah. A public meeting in which personnel from the State Historical Society will explain ex-plain in greater detail the nature and importance of historical preservation will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the court room of the old County Courthouse. Mr. Allan Roberts, architectural historian with the State Historical His-torical Society, will also pre -sent a slide program on the historical homes of Beaver. In it he highlights many of the unique and historical features of these old structures. struc-tures. The meeting will be followed fol-lowed by an informal reception recep-tion at which time interested interest-ed persons can become more familiar with the work of the t Historical Society.. |
