Show RC&D PROGRAM FINALLY GIVEN APPROVAL FOR SOUTHERN UTAH The Color Country Resource Re-source Conservation and Development De-velopment Project has been approved for operations according ac-cording to Lorln Jones, Chairman of the Five -County AOG Natural Resources Committee. The Project Is a program that provides financial and technical aid to plan and carry car-ry out natural resource development de-velopment Improvements. The pressing need for conserving con-serving and developing existing water supplies was the main catalyst for promoting the Project. Desperate Des-perate need by some cities to improve their sewer and culinary systems and protection pro-tection from ravishing floods are other factors cited for the Project. Soil Conservation Districts, Dis-tricts, cities, counties and the FCAG are sponsors of the Project. The Flve-County Flve-County Natural Resources Committee, which is made up of representatives of the sponsors, administers and provides leadership to' the project in consultation with the AOG, county commissions, commis-sions, and city councils. The first step In winning approval for the RC&D Project Pro-ject was to prepare a natural resources plan. Using city and county master plans for guidelines, the Natural Resources Re-sources Committee made an intensive inventory of problems prob-lems and needs. Local organizations or-ganizations and federal and state agencies provided input in-put into the preparation of the Plan. Over 20 million dollars In project needs were I identified. Given high pri- I ority by the Committee and now in the planning stage by the Soil Conservation Service Ser-vice are a water pumping plant at Escalante, a multipurpose multi-purpose reservoir at Enterprise Enter-prise and a river diversion structure near Pangultch.
