Show Two Bridge Builders Win Prizes At MHS Fifteen students participated partici-pated in a bridge building contest in the physics and science classes at MHS. Brad Gale, a senior, won the local competition with a bridge holding 566 lbs. as tested by Southern Utah State College, who sponsors the contest throughout Region Eight. They offer a scholarship scholar-ship to SUSC to the winning senior. Darin Malchus, a seventh grader, had his bridge withstand with-stand 530 lbs. Brad won $10 and Darin $5. Brad is reported re-ported still in the running for the scolarship. The bridges may be of any design chosen, or invented by them. They use balsa wood for material. An eighth grader grad-er in Beaver had a bridge which withstood a weight of over 800 pounds and aParo-wan aParo-wan youth's bridge exceeded a 1300 pound pressure. SUSC, under the direction of Professor Judd, tests the bridges to the breaking point with special equipment in each school. Bridges were tested at Mllford on Feb. 18. 11 |
