Show Bat 9 Jfeaid "I Dunno" was selected, for the second straight year, as the top editor's colmun in the annual an-nual State Press Assn Better Newspaper Contest, for our circulation group. Checking back, since 1949 "I Dunno" has received five first place awards, three second sec-ond places and one third, and a couple of honorable mentions. men-tions. Laurel Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Young and a student at Snow College in Ephraim, was one of the two soloists at their annual Dance Revue last week end. Laurel was featured in a novelty dance number. Lamar Grimshaw, custodian at Milford Elementary School, has been queried the past week about the health conditions at the elementary school after we published a letter of commendation commen-dation from Health Officer Dr. D. A. Symond lauding George Sears for the way he's caring for the high school. Lamar received a similar letter let-ter from Dr. Symond, written the same day. The state health officer who made the inspection of Milford's schools was particularly congratulatory congratula-tory to both custodians and Milford's parents can be proud and thankful that their children are in a healthy environment en-vironment during their school hours. But Lamar ain't so happy about pumping up school bus tires in the chill morning winds. Twice during the past week youngsters have loosened the valve cores and let air out of school bus tires. It doesn't do any good, so far as keeping the bus from running, and just makes more work for Lamar. Needless to say, a close watch is being kept on the area and these mischievous vandals will be severely dealt with when they're caught. Father Valine, genial pastor of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Milford, is an adept fisherman fisher-man of fish as well as following follow-ing the admonition of Jesus who urged His disciples to become be-come "fishers of men." On a recent trip to C ali-fornia ali-fornia Father Valine landed a 42-lb striped bass at the confluence con-fluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers near Richmond. Rich-mond. Last Friday evening the huge fish was served to the congregation con-gregation at a "parish get-together." In last week's paper we had an error that really wasn't an error, but did leave a wrong impression. Unable to interview victims of an accident, we drove to Minersville to personally view the scene of an accident which critically injured Charles Van Scoy of La Puenta, Calif., and fatally injured his wife. Mrs. Van Scoy died in the Beaver County Hospital, Tuesday. In our report we stated that a right-angle turn sign and speed limit of 25 miles per hour were posted at the curve where the accident occurred. We later learned that the roght-angle turn sign was in place ahead of the curve at the time of the accident, but the speed limit sign was posted later. |
