Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Leon Smith arrived home from California, Cali-fornia, Jan. 7th, after visiting a brother in law and sister in Wilmington. They also visited Mrs. Geneva Idol, Myrtle and Jim Idol, Vera and Joe Meek, and other relatives and friends. o Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Vickers and family spent Saturday in Panguitch, dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Young, and celebrating Mrs. Vickers' birth anniversary, which was on Tuesday. Mr. nd Mrs. J- Frank Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Koy Yardley and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Yardley and son Dale spent a week in Phoenix, Ariz. They attended the National Cattlemen's Convention, Con-vention, and visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barton and Grant Smith, and Mrs. Ira Yardley's brother, Mr. and Mrs- Joel Fletcher in Phoenix. They also enjoyed a trip into Old Mexico, Mex-ico, and toured the Mesa LDS Temple. Mrs. Gertrude Easton underwent under-went major surgery Wednesday Wednes-day in the Iron County Hospital. Hos-pital. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ward were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ward Monday, en route to their home in tAy, Nev., after visiting Mrs. Ward's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shot well, in California. Gay and Fred Smith were in Beaver over the Christmas holidays hol-idays visiting Fred's: parents. Accompanying them "was his sister, Cherie, James Park, and a friend, Gary Reichenback, who are stationed at Treasure Island. The boys left Monday to visit James's parents in Las Vegas, and the Smith's, accompanied ac-companied by their parents, left Dec. 26 for California. THE BEAVER BOOK Club met Jan. 9 at the Vaun Grim-shaw Grim-shaw home. Mrs- Sara Bakes gave a very interesting review of the book "The Nun's Story" by Kuthryn Hulme. It was the true story of a Belgian girl who turned aside from marriage to enter a iam-ous iam-ous nursing order. It relates the trials, both medical and spiritual, thru which she passes pass-es ab she moves from novice to nun, and thence out to a hospital hos-pital in the Belgian Congo. Fitteen members were present pres-ent to enjoy thu evening and dainty refreshments. Mrs. Alia Hickman will be host at the next meeting. KEITH CART WRIGHT was the honored guest at a birthday party, observing his sixth birth anniversary. 25 friends were present and enjoyed a wiener roast, after which they played games. GREENWOOD CAMP, DUP, met Jan. 10 at the home of Mrs. Martha Gale. Capt. Nell Mulchings Mul-chings presided over the meeting. meet-ing. Lola Mulchings gave the lesson, les-son, on "South Africa's Contribution Contri-bution to Utah." The drawing prize was won by Maude Lewis. Refreshments were served lo 13 members. A MISCELLANEOUS shower honored Mrs. Colleen Norris, whose wedding was an event o'f the early December holiday season- The shower was held at the home or her mother, Mrs. Carl Ward. Table games were played, after which refreshments were served to. 23 guests. Mrs. Norris Nor-ris received many lovely gills. MISS GAY WHELDON of Long Beach, Calif., and Mr. Fred Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Leon Smith of Beaver, were united in marriage marri-age Dec. 20 in the Los Angeles Temple. An open house was held in Long Beach, Dec. 28. The bride wore a gown of dark blue taffeta- The bride's mother's dress was a light brown taffeta trimmed trim-med in black velvet. The mother of the bridegroom bride-groom was dressed in a gray satin sheath dress. The sister of the bride wore peach taffeta and the sister of the groom was attired in a white and silver sheath dress. The wedding cake was white with red hearts, topped with the traditional minature bride and groom under a trellis of ros.es- The newlyweds are at home to their many friends at 3760 Olive Ave., Long Beach. BELKNAP CAMP, D U P, held their January meeting at the home of Martha Beaumont, witli Capt. Zelma Muir in charge. Following discussion of business busi-ness matters, Veda DeMai presented pre-sented the lesson on 'South Africa's Contribution to Utah." The interesting report mentioned men-tioned some early residents of Beaver, including William Folh-eringham Folh-eringham Sr., who served a mission in South Africa, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel N. Slaughter Slaugh-ter who were born in South Africa of English Colonial parents. par-ents. The hostess served fruit cake, cheese and hot lemonade and candy to 1 1 members. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey White returned home Saturday from Ogden, after attending funeral services for Mrs. White's sister in law, Mrs. May Sevy- She was killed Dec. 28 in a car accident ac-cident near Nampa, Idaho, in which her husband was severely se-verely injured. Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Walters, Mrs- Ellaleen Cartwright, Mrs. Myrtle Walters and Mrs. Jim Low, were in Salt Lake Thursday Thurs-day attending to business, and also visited Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Fotheringham and . Mr, and Mrs. G. L. Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Watters and Mrs. Low also visited the Bill Crawford family, and en route home stopped in Orem to call on Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson. Mrs-Myrtle Mrs-Myrtle Watters remained in j Springville 'for an extended visit with her daughters. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Horton, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs, Earl Horton and family of Fillmore, were in Springville and Provo Monday visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Horton Jr., and Mr- and Mrs- Dick Horton and family. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., were in Paro-wan Paro-wan attending funeral services for Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. Alice M Stevens, and also visited vis-ited in Beaver at the home of their son, Mr, and Mrs. Clinton Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Newell Iverson and three daughters of Delta and Mr. and Mrs- LeRoy Goodwin Good-win of Ely, Nev., spent several days last week visiting their mother, Mrs. Hattie Goodwin, and other relatives. Mrs. Pat Lindsay and children chil-dren and Mrs. Heber Atkin spent Monday in Cedar City, attending a medical clinic held there and visiting Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gale. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Nowers and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Roberts visited in Cedar City with Mr. and Mrs- Frank Nowers. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Smith motored to Salt Lake Sunday to be with their son, Leo Smith, who underwent surgery Monday Mon-day morning. They returned Tuesday, reporting Leo is recuperating re-cuperating satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Robinson and children of Cedar City spent Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Parkinson. Parkin-son. . Mrs. Rose Willden, who has been a patient in the Iron County Hospital, will spend the remainder of the winter with her son Jim in Salt Lake. |
