Show eoecpcakNSt, Attorney and Mrs. George Miller Mil-ler of Beaver motored to St. George Sunday to visit their par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Miller, and with Dr. and Mrs. Henry Miller and son, Jimmie, before their return to Glendale, Calif. Miss Fern Starr returned last week from Provo where she has been an instructor the past year. Recently Miss Starr was elected to succeed herself as faculty advisor ad-visor for the 35 home economics clubs of the state. This is distinct dis-tinct recognition for Miss Starr's excellent work in this field, one year at Hurricane and one year at Provo. 44- Mrs. William Dixon and grandson, grand-son, Dixon Bradford, left last week for Payson to spend the summer. Albert Stock spent Sunday in St. George with his mother, Mrs. John Stock, before leaving from Las Vegas Monday for Los Angeles An-geles where he will have special surgery for his right hand, which was severely injured three weeks ago, when a truck tire which he was repairing at the garage where he is employed, exploded, breaking the finger bones and tearing the ligaments. Mrs. Tina Macfarlane is reported making improvement f r om injuries in-juries received in a fall at her home several days ago. Bishop and Mrs. Max Hafen and children of Mesquite were St. George visitors Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Terry and two daughters arrived Saturday from Provo to visit for a week with his mother, Mrs. Roxa J. Terry. Mr. Terry will also spend several days this week at the Terry ranch. John Alsop returned 'ruesday from a short business trip to Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pulsipher of Bunkerville were St. George visitors Tuesday. 41: , Leo G. Smith returned Saturday Satur-day from Salt Lake City where he went to visit his brother, Bill Smith, who had the misfortune to lose his right arm when a car ran over him at the train yards where he was employed. He is reported making improvement. Among the put-o-town relatives who were here over the week end to visit and attend the funeral services of Mrs. Sarah Ida Fore-master Fore-master were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Savage of Los Angeles; Mrs. El-Roy El-Roy Jones of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Stirling of Las Vegas; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Larson of Escalante; and Joseph Bennett of Holden. 41: Miss Evelyn Smith returned Saturday from Logan, where she' has attended school the past year at the U. S. A. C. Visiting last week with Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Reid were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reid of San Diego, Calif. I Mr. Reid is employed at the Consolidated Con-solidated airplant at San Diego. During their two weeks vacation the couple visited in northern Utah with Mrs. Reid's relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Merrill and daughter, Barbara, who have made their home in Las Vegas for several years, moved to St. George recently, They purchased the former J. K. Nicholes home two years ago and now here to enjoy this location, having recently dis'posed dis-'posed of their holdings in Las Vegas. Waiting his possible call to military service, Mr. Merrill is busy raising poultry and finds their location on the hill ideal for this purpose. Mrs. Merrill is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Chaun-cey Macfarlane. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Reid were advised Tuesday of the birth Sunday, Sun-day, May 30 of a daughter, to Mr. a n d Mrs. Eldon Reid in Chicago. Eldon is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Reid, and is employed as a public auditor in Chicago, having recently received a senior rating in this employment. Mr. and Mrs. LaVon McQuaid and Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Prisbrey united in entertaining at a family lawn supper Monday evening on the McQuaid lawns, honoring Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Gardner and daughters, daugh-ters, Judean and Joyce of Price, who have been visiting for ten days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miner G. Prisbrey. They returned re-turned home Wednesday. Mrs. Mary A. Drake arrived Aronday morning from Los Angeles An-geles where she has been visiting for several weeks with her children child-ren and grandchildren and making the acquaintance of twin great- c,i-randdaughters. Diana Leah and, Gail Christine Nukam. daughters1 of Mr. and Airs. Bill Nukam, now of Los Angeles and were born in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor, July 6, 1942. Mrs. Edgar R. Simpson and son, Richard, left early Sunday for Los Angeles and Pasadena, where they will visit relatives for ten days or two weeks. W. G. McMullin was home from Las Vegas Tuesday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holland left Sunday for Los Angeles on business and to visit relatives. -Ns Lieut. Dave W. Edwards arrived ar-rived Thursday morning from Camp Haan, Calif., to spend his five-day furlough with friends, returning re-turning to camp Monday. 4; Mrs. Charles A. Barnum spent last Friday in LaVerkin with her sister, Mrs. Brigham Hardy, and Monday in Mesquite with her mother, Mrs. James Hughes, who returned with her to vist for several sev-eral days. Don Pickett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Pickett, formerly of St. George and now of Los Angeles, is one of the group of cadets who arrived recently to participate in the cross-country flying courses' being given by E. L. Anderson. Mrs. Esmond Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hughes, all of Mesquite, Mes-quite, were visiting and transacting transact-ing business in St. George Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Miss Rhoda Cannon entertained a group of girl friends at her home Tuesday evening honoring Miss Adelia Hall, who left with the 4 a. m., bus Wednesday for Northampton, Mass., where she will train at Smith College with' the WAVES. Games and music furnished entertainment, Miss Hall receiving personal gifts from her friends. Mr. and Mrs. Stinson Ward arrived ar-rived Sunday from an extended visit in Los Angeles and will spend several weeks at their ranch before returning to the Coast. V: Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Nelson entertained en-tertained a group of friends of their son, Grant, Friday at the Municipal Mu-nicipal pool, the occasion being his eighth birthday anniversary. Lunch was served following the swim. 4 Stafford Snow, who has been employed in Salt Lake City for several months returned home recently re-cently to visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Snow and other relatives prior to his military mili-tary induction. Here for the week on CPA business were Grant Ivins and Clarence Schmutz, both of Salt Lake City. Mr. Ivins heads the field work for the state. Mr. Schmutz, formerly of St. George is visiting relatives while here. Miss Jean Cottam returned last Friday from Kanab, where she taught school the past year, having hav-ing spent a week following the close of school with friends at the Johnson ranch. Dr. and Mrs. Howard Woodbury and son, Franklin, of Las Vegas accompanied by Mrs. Woodbury's sister, Dorothy Lund, arrived last Saturday evening to visit with Mr. Woodbury's mother, Mrs. Vivian Viv-ian Woodbury and his sister, Mona. He returned to Las Vegas Monday, Mon-day, and Mrs. Woodbury on Wed' Wed-' nesday afternoon, leaving the baby with its grandmother. Dr. and Mrs. Woodbury will go by plane to Salt Lake City today (Thursday) (Thurs-day) to attend t h e three-day western dental conference. 1 4 A large group of relatives and friends assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cannon last Saturday evening for a birthday birth-day anniversary surprise party honoring Mr. Cannon. Mrs. Cannon Can-non was assisted by her mother, Mrs. Albert E. Miller and sister, Mrs. Grace Bullock in staging the affair. Out-of-town guests included in-cluded Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Miller and son, Jimmie, of Glendale, Glen-dale, Calif.; and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Frei Jr., and family of Santa Clara. Highlighting the evening's program were dramatizations, skits and readings by "Jimmie and His Ma", the Millers of Glendale who have enlarged their repertoire reper-toire and are frequently in demandl for club and other programs. 1 Miss Alice Woodbury left last Sunday for Provo where she will visit for two weeks with her sister, Mrs. Glenn D. Overly. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Booth, accompanied ac-companied by Pvt. Rea Booth, who is home on furlough from Gilroy, Calif., returned late Wednesday Wed-nesday night from spending four days visiting relatives in Minersville Miners-ville and Tooele. Pvt. Booth is a son of William Booth of this city. |
