Leaving Dec. 9, were 11, including Rolland Reid-head Reid-head of Washington; Kenneth F. Charles, son of Foster Charles of the Shevwit Indian reservation, Santa Clara; Justin M. Covington, Theron W. Leany, Rodney Gibson, Ted Isom and Don M .Stout, all of Hurricane; Clawson Hunt of Enterprise and Lawrence Empey, Thomas W. Turnbeaugh and Thomas C. Bryner, all of St. George. The second group left Dec. 10. In this assignment were Clinton Emmett and Stanley Adams of Enterprise; Gerald Clive Hart-man, Hart-man, Leeds; George D. Thayne, Mt. Trumbull, Ariz.; a transfer inductee; and Kay i tsunciy ana Walter H. Fullerton of St. George. Both groups left at 3:00 o'clock a. m., and for unavoidable reasons both groups went without the usual us-ual farewell celebration. The local firemen who were to handle the entertainment have had their ranks so depleted they were unable un-able to meet the situation, and later plans went awry, which the Selective Service board and citizens, citi-zens, generally feel to regret. Since this group of boys had only one week at home between their final examination and their date of induction, it was impossible impos-sible for the Selective Service board to announce the date of their departure, so that citizens could be present to give them a send-off, in fact only a few immediate im-mediate relatives and friends were even present at that early hour either morning. Clive Hartman, who has been visiting relatives (Continued on page five) 17 Inductees Leave (Continued from first page) in Ogden, did not return to leave! from St. George, but joined his j group in Salt Lake City. Assignment has been made to the local camps of the D. U. P., for the January farewell entertainments enter-tainments and plans are underway under-way for the entertainment pending pend-ing word from the Selective Service Serv-ice board as to the dates of departure de-parture of the group or groups during that month. This last assignment takes into the service both sons of Foster Charles, the second son for Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Fullorton and the third son for Mr. and Mrs. Roy Adams of Enterprise. |
