Show Cadet Crosswinds By DON STOCKTON Whoops, my dears! We made it! What I mean is, we're back in town again, this time with a solid Navy enlistment for Bassett and Phelps primary, and a 100 Army for the Dixie Flying Service primary. Secondary includes both Army and Navy for both flight contractors, Army predominating. Mighty sharp looking bunch, we're thinking! 'Course we couldn't have made the trip to Ventura without having hav-ing some sort of trouble! The chilly winter ozone was bad enough (we left at 10 p.m.), but way out in the middle of the desert 'tother side of Baker, our poor bus had to throw a fuel pump! And us with no tools, darnnit! Thanx to the Lang Transportation company, we were able to make repairs enough to hobble on to Ventura, arriving at noon Monday. Our return trip to St. George was uneventful; we left Ventura at 6 a.m., all 26 of us, and drove through the warmth of the day, arriving here about 10 p. m., last Thursday night. . . . Believe we were glad to be back. No dimout to drive in, meat to eat, 'n other things that would seem incidental to most of you. So there! Most of the fellows are in the routine by now, although the flying fly-ing hasn't started as yet. All of the instructors went to Salt Lake Saturday, by various means, to enlist in the Army. Seems as though they either had to enlist, or be drafted. (Don't we all!) So, until their return, we aren't testing our wings. We're also hampered ' by the fact that there are several hangovers hang-overs (nothin' personal, fellers) from the last program, still to finish the flight course. 'Till they are finished, we can't start This week should see them finished. (We hope!) Did you notice the turnout at the college dance last Friday night? Guess the local guys and gals are awantin' a peek at the new primary stupids! Everybody had a swell time anyway It was observed! We might mention in passing that the new group had no troubfe in finding the permanently-filled cookie jar which is always empty! What appetites! Maybe they don't get good cookies at home at least not such good ones! Maybe we can do better by way of news next week, we hope' Effen you hear of any, let us in on it. 'Bye now! |
