Show Washington County Represented By 125 People At State Vater Meet I Group Also Calls On Road Commission and Fish and Game Commision One hundred twenty-five people ; representing various organizations I of the county were in attendance at i the water meeting called in Salt Lake City for the first of this week. While there the group also met with big game officials and the state road commission to discuss dis-cuss problems of interest to Washington county. Groups making the trip represented repre-sented the St. George and Hurricane Hurri-cane chamber of commerce. Enterprise En-terprise Civic clubs, Wild Life Federation and everyone of the various canal and water companies com-panies of the county. Those attending at-tending declare that they feel the trip was worth the effort and that the county will get at least two reservoirs. Thursday Night Meet A preliminary meeting was held in the county courthouse on last Thursday night for the purpose of deciding on a united program to be presented by Washington county representatives in the Salt Lake water meeting. At this meeting it was agreed that the Virgin river project was the major maj-or one of the county and should be pushed by the entire county. But, it was agreed that if it didn't appear feasible at this time to secure se-cure it with the money that was available, the group would ask for two smaller reservoirs, one for each end of the county. Senator Claud Hirschi was elected elec-ted to be chairman of the group in meeting with water officials in Salt Lake City and A. K. Hafen was appointed secretary. LeRoy Cox, who is chairman of the adjudication ad-judication committee for this section, sec-tion, was also asked to be present and help in presenting the projects. proj-ects. A meeting was planned with State Engineer T. II. Named on the permanent committee com-mittee of seven to represent the various districts of the county in furthering water development for the area were: Heber R. Truman of Enterprise, Enterprise district; W. B. Mathis of St. George, Santa Clara district; LeRoy H. Cox of St. George district; Leo K. Homer of Hurricane, Hurricane district; James R. Bunker of Veyo, Pine Valley district; Martin Anderson of Toquerville, Ash creek district, and B. M. Jones of Virgin, upper Virgin river district. |
