Show Newly Organized Lions Club Presented Charter District Governor Hatch In Attendance; Pres. James Judd Guest Speaker HURRICANE, Utah In an atmosphere atmos-phere befitting the occasion, Pres. Finley M. Judd officially accepted the charter which brought the Hurricane Lions club into the family of Lionism. With the presentation pre-sentation of the charter by Dis-rict Dis-rict Governor Aura C. Hatch, this club became the fiftieth club of the district. The charter night dinner dance program was held Saturday night in the high school auditorium with '.approximately 150 Lions, Lionesses and their guests present. Fifty St. George Lions met with Lions from Provo, Lehi, Panguitch, and Cedar City to officially welcome wel-come the Hurricane club into the organization of Lions clubs. The St. George club was the sponsoring sponsor-ing club with Pres.. Wesley Nelson bringing greetings from the sponsoring spon-soring club. Guest speaker for the evening was Pres. James Judd, recently returned Mission president presi-dent of the Australian Mission who gave a short talk on Australia Austra-lia and his experiences there. Toastmaster for the occasion was Dean Clark, who called the meeting meet-ing to order and introduced the various speakers. Brings Greetings In bringing greetings to the Hurricane club, President Nelson expressed the pleasure of his club in being able to help organize the Hurricane club. He extended the hand of fellowship in behalf of his club and offered their services in assisting in every way possible. He presented the objects of the Lions club and spoke of its high ideals and service it offered to the community. 0 President Judd emphasized the need for more holidays in America, Ameri-ca, telling of how in Australia everything closes down at Saturday Satur-day noon and a great many businesses busi-nesses only work five days aweek. (Continued on page eight) Hurricane Lions (Continued from first page) He explained that the public used this time for recreational purposes pur-poses and declared that in his opinion they were much better off because of it. He stated that Australia was more like the United States than England. That it had adopted our customs and ideas and that it felt very friendly toward to-ward this nation. He suggested that the Lions clubs take as one of their objectives the securing of more holidays for the public. Charter Presented Governor Hatch told that the Hurricane club was the fifth to be formed in the last two months, He declared that the St. George club with their lion had something some-thing that was the envy of every other club in the district. He complimented them on this and their good work in helping to establish the Hurricane club. He explained that this was the fiftieth fif-tieth club in Utah and that there were 4000 clubs in America with a total of 150,000 members. "Our slogan of, 'Liberty, Intelligence, In-telligence, Our Nations Safety' is the only service club that has a patriotic slogan. We are proud that it was adopted and had been a leading influence in our organization," organi-zation," declared Governor Hatch. He told of the importance to the community of the Lions club and of its work. He then presented some of the objects and ideals of the club and officially presented the charter to President Judd. President Judd accepted the charter in behalf of his club and expressed his thanks for the work of the St. George club in sponsoring the St. George club in sponsoring them. He declared that it would be their objective to live up to the code of Lionism and expressed the hope that they would have as good a club as the St. George club. "I believe that the event of Lionism into Hurricane marks a great step forward. I hope that some day it can be said of Hurricane Hurri-cane that it is a better place in which to live, work and play by virtue of the Lions club," thus President Judd closed his acceptance accept-ance speech. Musical numbers were presented by a string quartet, a mens' quartet quar-tet and a vocal solo by Alma Clark. The group joined in singing sing-ing "America," "God Bless America" Ameri-ca" and the Lions song, " 'Til We Meet Again." Following the banquet ban-quet the group enjoyed dancing to the music of Hurricane's orches tra. Members and officers of the club are as follows: Finley M. Judd, President, P. H. Gates, H. C.
