Show Hurricane Mrs. Katharine Larson Reporter 5 Engagement Announced Miss Eleanor L. Nicholes received re-ceived an announcement of the engagement of her brothei1, Henry J. Nicholes and Miss Hildegarde Polster of Vienna, Austria. The marriage, which is set for June, will take place in the L.D.S. Temple at Salt Lake City. Both Miss Polster and Mr. Nicholes are studying at the University of Wisconsin, where Mr. Nicholes, who has a teaching fellowship in the school of medicine at the institution, will receive his master degree this spring. Mr. Nicholes, who is known throughout Washington county by former classmates at Dixie junior college, is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Nicholes, of Provo. The report on Gina Kans' "Portrait "Por-trait of An Empress", by Mrs. Emma Bradshaw, was concluded Wednesday afternoon, when 15 members of the Hurricane Ladies' Literary club met at the home of Mrs. Mary W. Hall. Mrs. Hall was assisted as hostess by Mrs. Leslie Sullivan. At the conclusion of the book review, lunch was served. Molvin Hall has been teaching the fifth grade for the past week, because of the illness of Paul H. Gates. Mrs. James Peace of Salt Lake City is here for a short stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders, before going on to Houston, Tex., where she will join her husband, who is in the real estate business there. Mrs. Peace is well remembered here by her many friends as Miss Emma Sanders. Mr .and Mrs. W. W. Cannon and family of St. George were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Webb and Mr. Cannon's mother, Mrs. Rhoda K. Cannon. Mrs. Webb returned Friday Fri-day from Los Angeles, where she had gone with the Cannons to attend the graduation exercises of their son, Wilford, from a morticians morti-cians college. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill P. Fawson entertained a few friends Sunday evening at their home, where din ner was served and games piayea. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Nuttall received re-ceived high score prizes in the card games and Miss Eleanor Nicholes and Mrs. Nelson A. Snow won high score at Chinese checkers. Mr. and Mrs. Owen F. Bergener entertained the cast of "An Old Spanish Custom" Tuesday evening at their home, where Spanish games and a Spanish dinner were features of the party. Lafe Staheli left early Sunday morning for St. George where he was joined by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Staheli, and the three of them continued on to Enterprise, where they spent the day with relatives. Elmer Graff, local FFA instructor, instruc-tor, and his protege, Melville Hirschi, returned Sunday from Salt Lake City, where Mr. Hirschi entered the FFA state-wide public speaking contest. Mr. Graff feels proud of Melville, in-as-much as he drew third place with his speech. Don Homer was host to the south ward junior genealogy class Sunday evening at the home of his parents, where Miss Lorraine Heaton gave the lesson, "For A Wise Purpose". The time was pleasantly spent with games and singing. |
