Show Petition Urges Control Work On Virgin Congress Asked To Provide Funds For Survey-In Survey-In Utah, Arizona, Nevada A petition urging the earliest action possible toward securing the services of the United States Engineers and the Secretary of Agriculture with the necessary finances for the "purpose of conducting con-ducting a complete detailed flood control and soil conservation survey sur-vey of that which before formation forma-tion of Lake Mead has been considered con-sidered the entire Virgin River watershed as situated in Utah, Arizona and Nevada" has been forwarded to the U. S. Senators and Representatives of these various vari-ous sections asking their support in securing the funds to make such a survey. This petition was drawn up by a group of representative repre-sentative citizens of these interested in-terested sections at a recent meeting meet-ing held in Logandale, Nev. In order to facilitate the pushing push-ing of this survey, a committee of 12 was elected and this committee com-mittee in turn selected an executive execu-tive board of three members. Those elected to this group were Edwin Marshall of Nevada, chairman; chair-man; Wayne C. Gardner, vice-chairman vice-chairman and Joseph T. Atkin Jr., secretary and treasurer. Mr. Wadswerth explains that the work would have to come i under both the Army and the! Soil Conservation departments of j the government and that Kith of ' these organizations have expressed express-ed a willingness to make the survey sur-vey providing it is authorized by congress and the necessary money provided. Those who attended the meeting front this district included Charles Anderson. Toquerville: Wayne C. Gardner. Lawrence Wadsworth. Joseph T. Atkin and George Seeg-miller. Seeg-miller. all of St. George: Harold Reber. Littlefield: Edwin Marshall. Logandale: Warren Hardy. John Conway. Caliente and Karl C Stewart. Alamo. All of these men are included on the committee of 12. It was the feeling of the group that this move is of vital importance im-portance to these states represented repre-sented and that if it is brought about it will have far reaching effects. I |
