Show Pine VaHey Mrs. E. S. Beckstrom Reporter Our long drouth was broken by a light shower of rain on Monday, Mon-day, we are all hoping for more soon to help bring the crops to maturity, particularly hay, as nearly every bit of the first crop was killed .by the severe frosts we had in June. The danger of forest fires has become so serious that the Forest Service has stationed a fire guard on one of the highest peaks on the mountain with a radio broadcasting set to report -fires before they become serious. Vere Beckstrom is acting as the guard. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur K. Hafen and part of their family are to spend their vacation here. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh J. Barton and Hogarth Jacobson have returned re-turned from Caliente, Nev., where they have spent the past two weeks on business. Mr. and Mrs. J. Will Pulsipher and family returned to their home in Richmond Tuesday after spending spend-ing the past 10 days here and in St. George visiting relatives. Mrs. Pulsipher's father, Reuben Gardner, returned with them to the northern part of the state where he will spend some time visiting his children. Due to the recent death of Mrs. Belle Snow, our relief society has been reorganized with Mrs. Maude Gardner, president; ' Mrs. Nettie Gardner and Mrs. Emma S. Snow, counselors and Mrs. Dixie Burgess, secretary. We had as missionaries on Sunday Sun-day John T. Woodbury and Grant Whitehead. Their talks were enjoyed en-joyed and appreciated by all who attended. Mr. Woodbury brought a number of his children with him and Mr. Whitehead was accompanied ac-companied by his grandmother, Mrs. Esther Whitehead, Mrs. Edna Bentley, Mrs. Jessie Whitehead White-head and Miss Edith Sullivan. Mrs. Jessie Whitehead is a native of Pine Valley and was for many years our ward clerk and organist. This was the first time she had been back to our church services in many years. E. S. Gardner is slowly recovering re-covering from a serious intestinal infection which he acquired while attending the banker's convention conven-tion at Grand Canyon a month ago. Grant and Guy Hafen of St. George and Elaine Bettenson of Cedar City joined a group .of the local stockmen the past week in making their annual range survey to determine the number of deer that should be taken off the forest. |
