Show Parowan Beats Dixie To Win Division Top Honors At Hurricane Parowan high school won the right to represent the south in j the six-man football championship j battle with the B. Y. high school, ! when they defeated the Flyers of Dixie at Hurricane Friday 22-14.! j The championship tilt will be played at Parowan. The locals got off to a poor start and did not hit their stride again until well into the second half. Parowan scored twice in the second quarter and converted a kick each time, to make the score 16-0 at the end of the first half. They completed a sensational sensa-tional pass in the third quarter to bring the score up to 22. The kick went wide. In the fourth canto Dixie came to life, scoring two touchdowns and kicking for two extra points. They all but scored again in the last minute of play, when in desperation des-peration they tried a series of long passes, one of which barely slipped out of the receiver's hands as he waited for it across the goal line. Dixie made 10 first downs to five for Parowan and exceeded Parowan in total yardage, but did not have the necessary scoring scor-ing punch. On one occasion they were held to four downs with inches to go. On another a Dixie pass received was tackled after a long run just before he reached the the goal line. On two other occasions Dixie was within 10 yards of the goal after making sustained drives, but each time the ball went to Parowan. The Parowan team outweighed the Dixie boys, and they showed more speed. These facts, plus a number of Dixie fumbles, spelled the margin of victory. The Rams played good ball throughout, took advantage of the breaks, and were strong on of- fense and defense. They should give a good account of themselves when they play the blue and white from Provo. |
