Show Poor Showing By Scouts In First National Mobilization Meet Here : The Scouts of St. George were called together Saturday, date set for national mobilization, to determine de-termine the efficiency of troop organization in case the Scouts should be called for any type of emergency. The results were any-a any-a thing but satisfying to district officers, but it is hoped that local leaders will profit by the poor I showing and do better next time. A second mobilization will be t called in the near future. At this time county and city officials will address the assembled boys on J types of service that the boys J might render to their town and J county. The purpose of the mobilization t is not generally understood by J parents. It is not a war mobiliz- ation, though if war should come to America, the Scouts should be J prepared to do their bit. During 4 the World War, Scouts made count of walnut trees, sold Lib- erty bonds, helped the Red Cross j prepare oversea first-aid pack-I pack-I ages, served as messengers, and j performed many other functions. In time of peace Scouts have j frequently been called upon in t time of accident and disaster to render first-aid, build temporary 4 shelter, help prevent panics, res- cue from drowning, keep crowds j (Continued on page eight) Scout Mobilization (Continued from first page) back from further disaster, and the like. It is for this type of service, mass action, that the troop and district mobilization has been planned. It is, of course, sometimes some-times inconvenient for parents to permit their boys to leave work for such a call, but if they would realize the good that would come from such preparation for service, they would make every reasonable sacrifice. It is hoped that at the next mobilization all will work together to-gether to make it an outstanding success. |
